Wood from a cargo ship that hit stormy water earlier on in the week has been washed on the shores of Kent. Thousands of tonnes of the sawn timber started to come ashore throughout Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Much to the amazement of the people who lived there, they woke up only to see scattered remains of timber that people are more than welcome to steal and make their own classic bedroom furniture.
The work force which are responsible for clearing the mess were absolutely baffled with what to do with all of the wood and were told to wait for further instructions.Despite the extreme conditions and biting winds, people braved the weather to get a look at the very bizarre scenes. Even my old man had told me that we should take a trip over to Kent and get some wood for making our own furniture.
The timber fell from a Russian registered vessel the Sinegorsk in the Chanel on Monday, 14 miles off of New Haven, Sussex. Around 1,500 tonnes are thought to have gone overboard into the deep blue sea while it was sailing from Alexandra in Egypt from Oskarshamn in Sweden. The cargo apparently still belongs to the original owner and Kent Police have warned that any attempts to remove any of what has been washed up to be treated as theft. Although they have stated the stipulations people have still gone down to the seaside and taken various bits of wood. Normally, people go down to the seaside at night and steal the timber. Though, now the police have been called to keep an eye on all of wood and protect it from being stolen.
This is the second time that wood has washed up on the shores of various Sussex beaches. At a very similar time last year, Worthing was subject to the same treatment as a cargo ship spilled out a load of wood that people took.

According to reports the Royal Mail is spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on brand new designer furniture for its new riverside headquarters. The new comes directly after it emerged that the postal service intends to cut thousands upon thousands of front line jobs upping the national un-employment level. The decision has been condemned by several unions. The shopping list of items approved by Royal Mail bosses includes a stylish range of Italian furniture costing in the region of £100,000 and walnut desks costing £6,000 a piece according to documents published by the Daily Mail earlier this week. Various members of the boardroom have also requested seats costing £700. Around two hundred mail managers and staff will move to newly re-furbished offices in ‘Unilever House’ by the famous River Thames on the Embankment in central London in May. The 30,000ft space will replace the current Royal Mail headquarters in East London which is now being made into new offices for ‘Aviva’ or ‘Norwich Union’.
According to reports the firm has ordered some serious high end white company furniture from such companies as Kusch & Co and the designer Davison Highley. Last month the Royal Mail announced a record amount of profits in accordance with the Christmas rush. Apparently, they had made a profit of roughly £255 million – more than £900,000 a day yet they still want to get rid of thousands of jobs as part of a cost cutting exercise to ultimately turn over half the company into a PLC (Private, Limited, Company).
A Royal Mail spokesman said that they had reduced the size of the HQ team. It is now more efficient and leaner. Of course it is also much cheaper! A communications officer for the Workers Union in London said, “It’s disgusting that while postmen and women are being forced out of the business, this money is being spent on plush offices”.

Until recent times the primary function of a bedroom is a place to sleep. With so many varying types furniture available, homeowners are now expanding this function from just a sleeping room into a relaxation room, a space to chill out, read a book or watch TV. When remodelling your bedroom consider how you want to use it. A romantic and relaxing haven is a must for many bedrooms and this can be achieved with many traditional and modern furniture designs.

When looking at the required style and use of your bedroom, colours are as good a place as any to start. Reds and pinks give a warm, romantic glow to the room but if you prefer not to experiment with too much colour, add some warm cream colours to the wall and flooring. The romantic reds and pinks can be saved for soft furnishings such as curtains and bedding. A bedroom which is too dim is unsuitable if you are planning to immerse yourself into a good book, likewise a room which is too bright will not give you the right ambiance to relax and unwind. Sticking to soft lighting shades such as ivory or amber should give the perfect glow to your bedroom sanctuary. For that extra cosy, inviting touch add some luxurious throws and cushions onto your bed which are rich in colour in order to draw your eye to them when you look into the room.

If you do want to use your bedroom as a place for relaxation and reflection then there is no better addition than photographs and pictures. Looking at scenic landscapes and photos of happy times gone by can help you focus on the good things in life which enable you to strive for your ambitions even in the dullest of times. Good bedroom lighting considers a careful mixture of practical and psychological factors. The average bedroom has so many different uses - relaxation, intimacy, study, morning preparation - that covering them all can be tricky.

We associate the bedroom with, among other things, sleep. This usually means no lighting at all. That suggests that turning them off should not be a chore. If you’ve been laying in bed reading it can be annnoying to turn them off, especially if you’ve gotten very tired. A main control switch within reach is a great thing here.

That nighttime reading can be a hurtful on the eyes, causing fatigue and headaches. Banish the problem by installing lights in the proper places with the correct color.

Color? Does that mean you should get pink or blue light bulbs? No. Color, here, means ‘color temperature’. Good reading lights are designed to emulate the range of wavelengths given off by natural sunlight, which is determined in part by the temperature of the sun’s surface. Humans’ eyes evolved to be sharpest under those conditions. Getting bulbs and lamps labeled as close to that will provide comfortable reading conditions.

But sometimes, you just want a pleasant ambiance, not a practical light. That, too, should be thought about when coming up with the lighting scheme for the bedroom.

To provide a cheery atmosphere that also provides needed light to tie shoes, connect a tricky clasp, brush hair or do any other common task, place lamps appropriately. Here again keep the light above the eyes, but let it shine directly down. In a home with modern furniture its also important to make sure the light style matches the modern seating selected. Raising it too high creates deep shadows that can hinder makeup application, make clothing color judgment more difficult and so on. Too low and it gets in your eyes, making those chores harder. Choose a pleasing middle level.

Select and place lamps about a foot higher than where your eyes are, and allow them to reflect light off surfaces. That provides the well-known indirect light effect that gives a subdued atmosphere. Whether for romance or just a quiet time away from distractions, that produces a calming effect that is just right in the bedroom.

Morning time is when most people, both kids and adults, will be up and preparing to meet the day. But, depending on the time of the day and season of the year, the sun doesn’t always cooperate to provide the illumination needed. The orientation of the house plays a role, too, as do any curtains, exterior overhangs and so forth.

For overall illumination - for entering the room, vacuuming and a hundred other common tasks - a broad ambient lighting scheme is needed. A house with contemporary furniture can really benefit from a creative lighting style.  A central fixture with a strong lamp and a diffusing cover is often just the thing. For other bedroom designs supplemental lighting fixtures will be needed. There are often lots of corners, nooks and other areas of a bedroom that can have deep shadows.

For all of the above applications a dimmer switch, or at least multi-level bulbs, can allow for finer control of light and shadow. They can also allow for some small electricity savings if the light stays on for extended periods. A 300-watt halogen bulb can contribute a chunk to the monthly bill. Dimming it when lower illumination is enough slices that down.

Consider all the ways you use your bedroom and light accordingly.

There are a lot of issues in choosing ikea conservatory furniture such as room size, style, materials for the suite, number and type of pieces, accessories available to match etc below we discuss a few.

What style of conservatory furniture suits you? Conservatory furniture is available in modern or traditional styles but normally is made from cane or wicker as these furniture materials are very resistant to the sort of conditions found in a conservatory. Heat, damp, strong sunlight etc. Some times the conservatory is only used for part of the year so not all materials are suitable in this environment.

First of all, measure the space available and plan exactly what will fit into the space before buying your conservatory furniture. Whilst that big, comfy sofa will look lovely, it won’t feel so great when you have to climb over that table and chair to get to it.

As with most things qualities vary and it is important to understand what you are buying. Conservatory furniture can be durable, strongly manufactured, in one piece, or quite flimsy. It is this quality and strength and the intricacy of workmanship and quality of materials which should determine the price.

As we have established, conservatory furniture comes in many different styles and prices. The same also applies to the type of upholstery you choose. Whilst economy foam, such as crumb foam, may seem like the best deal at the time it may not stand up to every day use over the long term. Purchasing an expensive but more durable type of foam is more cost effective over time as the need to replace it will be less.

The finishing touches to the interior of your conservatory can be made with the accessories you choose to accompany your furniture. A magazine rack or table lamp may be just the thing to give that cosy, homely atmosphere. Matching cushions could give that extra comfort-factor to your chosen seating.

The phrase “contemporary” is familiar to most people who associate the word with modernity.  However it can be harder to define what contemporary means when you associate it with furniture design.  The consensual view is that contemporary furniture refers to furniture that was designed in the second half of the 20th century. The spirit of liberation that is associated with the 1960s inspired many designers to create and experiment with furniture design. Some of the notable examples of modern 20th century design include lava lamps and the waterbeds which are both almost now defunct in terms of items of desire.

Much of the experimentation that went on in in the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s involved using material that has not been used in furniture design in the past such as the creative use of plastic and leather.  Some of the designs and colour schemes have now become cult retro furniture classics. Before the contemporary era, furniture was largely perceived as an ornament, the value of which was derived from how long it took to construct. Modern designs were influenced by a desire to project newness and innovation both in terms of construction and functionality.

Chairs

Famous contemporary chairs that have emerged include the Wassily Chair or Model B3 chair, that was created by German designer Marcel Breuer.  The chair’s revolutionary design includes tubular steel as well as wafer thin leather has made it an iconic piece of contemporary furniture.  Another famous design, such as the Barcelona chair, were designed by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich in the late 1920’s.  It was inspired by the folding chairs of ancient times and like the Wassily has become an icon of modernism.

Unique Lighting

Aside from contemporary chairs, unique lighting is another important development in modern furniture design.  Unique lighting can be defined as any light installation that is modern, quirky, individual or has something completely unconventional regarding the design.  It is not an easy concept to describe as much of what related to unique lighting is conceptual.
